RM Hubbert + Mammoth Penguins + Such Small Hands + Lee Clayden *FREE*

RIGHT. So we thought it'd be a killer idea as the sun has gone in for the year to do a big free gig full of all our faves that normally we'd have for ticketed shows. The Hope & Ruin kindly agreed to let us do this crazy thing downstairs (in the pub area) which is lovely. That sounds great, eh? I'm glad you agree. Who's playing?

- RM HUBBERT
http://rmhubbert.com/
This will be Hubby's fourth time playing for us in Brighton but the first in 3 years, so it's going to be great to see him again. A staple of the Glasgow music scene, Hubby releases on the legendary label Chemikal Undergound and has performed and toured alongside the likes of Emma Pollock, Kathryn Joseph, Mogwai & David Thomas Broughton.

Second album 'Thirteen Lost & Found' (featuring guests as eclectic as Aidan Moffat, Alex Kapranos, Emma Pollock, Alasdair Roberts and more) won the 2013 Scottish Album of the Year, whilst follow-up full-lengths 'Breaks & Bone' and 2016's 'Telling The Trees' have both been nominated for the award in their respective years.

Recently, Hubby hasn't been performing often and as such this is a rare appearance - 2017 has seen two 'Recovery EP's released on Bandcamp. They're fantastic, take a look: https://rmhubbert.bandcamp.com/

- MAMMOTH PENGUINS
https://www.facebook.com/MammothPenguins/
Cambridge indie trio MP released an absolute cracker in 2015's 'Hide & Seek' (Fortuna Pop!) and we couldn't be more excited about their new album out later this month (provided you're still reading this in October), 'John Doe' (WIAIWYA), a concept album based around the titular character, a man willing to fake his own death to escape his problems.

Led by the fantastic Emma Kupa, this will also be the fourth time we've had Emma down to play in various incarnations (including MP themselves last year) dating way back to 2012 when her old band Standard Fare played The Green Door Store.

- SUCH SMALL HANDS

Those of you familiar with us at Cupboard Music will know how brilliant we think SSH is. A solo project of Brighton's Melanie Howard, we put out a double-release last year for single 'The Deep' and demos collection 'In Your Most Fragile Gestures Are Things Which Enclose Me'. The first run of The Deep 7"s sold out so quickly they were all gone in pre-order & we had to make some more in order to have some to sell come release day! More recently, SSH put out an excellent digital-only single 'Not In Love'.

Having toured extensively with indie legends The Wedding Present alongside local support slots with the likes of Haiku Salut, Thomas Truax & Marika Hackman amongst others, we can't wait to see what's coming next.

- LEE CLAYDEN

A one-time Brighton resident, us at CM have however known Lee since going to shows growing up in Hertfordshire. A phenomenally-talented singer-songwriter, the years have seen Lee performing alongside artists as diverse as Patrik Fitzgerald, Haiku Salut, Roddy Woomble & Singing Adams amongst many others.

Recent years have seen Lee playing in hotly-tipped London 4-piece Teenage Caveman and as such this will be a rare solo performance.

- Someone else!
We're just waiting on a confirmation from one other performer, watch this space and we'll let you know ASAP. There may also be a DJ. There definitely will be beer.

As I say, this is totally FREE. It'll be great to see you come down - maybe if it goes well they'll let us do another sometime?
