CANNED PINEAPPLE
Brighton based 5-piece Canned Pineapple return with the infectious new single ‘Bowie’.
Once again showcasing the scuzz-pop and slacker rock sound which has seen them gain support across the likes of NME and BBC Introducing, the band continue to build their catalogue ahead of their hotly anticipated upcoming new EP.
Led by Irish vocalist Seán Drury and his songwriting partner Oakley Gardiner, alongside multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer Jude Allenby, Guitarist Gabe Rice and drummer Charlie Pringle, the band have honed and crafted their unique, expressive yet vibrant and catchy sound, building a reputation for the high-octane live shows.
Built around a sea of indie guitar tones, intricate bass runs and a driving rhythm section, ‘Bowie’ captures a sense of freedom and euphoria as the track shuffles under the distorted, charismatic yet carefree vocal delivery. As swelling slide guitars glide above the track, the vocal is broken up by a chanting “yeah yeah yeah”, leaning into the euphoric indie side of the band’s sound before the chorus dips into its stripped, melancholic chorus.
A tongue-in-cheek ode to David Bowie, the track’s witty storytelling lyricism drops references whilst retaining a sincerity for the band’s admiration.
