Pianist, rapper, singer and producer Mrisi is a multifaceted artist who showcases a variedmusical background and a sensitivity to music which results in tracks with substance.The development of his music unifies his heritage and areas of influence. A South African musician fatherand English poet mother have made musicality and lyricism part of his upbringing and the diversity is evidentin his sound. Sounds from traditional South African riddims to Jazz piano and grass roots Hip Hop which canbe heard alongside gritty British narrative, drill and house. He fuses evocative sounds of South Africa and hisancestral language Shangaan Tsonga, with current British rap, poetry and stories that range fromimmigration to ‘black lives matter’ to conflicts of identity.“..truly poeticflair.” ~ Complex MagazineMrisi released his debut EP Mamela in 2018 to critical acclaim and since then, a series of stand alonesingles. His music has appeared in broadcast media including; ITV,Channel 4, BBC Radio Asian Network,BBC News,Pyro Radio,Link Up TV,GRM Daily, Reprezents Radio andSofar Soundsand online mediaincludingMusic WeekandComplexhave championed his releases. His live performances display his skill onthe piano and more recently themarimba, mbira, mouth bow and a plethora of traditional instrumentsalongside his challenging, thoughtful yet often witty lyricism. As a live experience, his shows feature drums,saxophone/ brass, bass, guitar, backing vocals and keys fused with the sounds of African instruments. Mrisihas toured across the UK and South Africa, working alongside artists such as Omar, Prince Fatty, Kokoroko,Sadat X, Yazmyn Hendrix, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and countless other established artists.
