Love Thy Neighbour present:
NO FRIENDS IN THE INDUSTRY
Love Thy Neighbour’s unofficial parties at The Great Escape return!
No Friends in the Industry is a free entry (with or without TGE wristband) floor show in the bar area of The Hope & Ruin. The stage runs across all three days of the festival from Thursday 11th May to Saturday 13th May.
2.30pm – TBA
3.30pm – Milo Korbenski
Milo Korbenskiis an enigmatic Brighton-based solo musician [4 performers onstage]. His haunted take on lo-fi indie crosses references points as broadly spread as Kurt Vile, Helado Negro, The xx, Jagwar Ma and Calvin Johnson while retaining a vitally singular energy. A true auteur and inexhaustibly prolific, Milo Korbenski has recorded, designed and self-released a number of albums on streaming platforms (and enjoyed staggering listening figures) without any backing, and has only recently signed his first record deal with Independent label Phantom Limb.
4.30pm – Blue Bendy
“The six-piece have shaken off the grotty post-punk associations of their scene to gleefully mix up inspirations that range from orchestral pop to industrial rock” The Guardian.
5pm – 6.30pm Break for Beelzebab
6.30pm – Butch Kassidy
Butch Kassidy’s explosive immersive post-rock compositions and deafening live performances place them amongst London’s most compelling new guitar projects. Creating coruscating walls of sound indebted to the likes of Slint and Godspeed You! Black Emperor by way of the members affinities for improvisation, minimalism and metal, the five-piece from West London emerged in early 2020.
7.30pm – Shelf Lives
“It’s as close to real life as you can get without feeling really depressed about it,” Sabrina offers by way of summarising Shelf Lives – the London-based electro-punk outfit she fronts alongside guitarist/producer Jonny. Much like this point in time, the duo’s music feels chaotic, tense, and wired.
8.30pm – Loose Articles
Specialising in discordant, hypnotic repetition, tales of boozy nights out, and radical politics, Loose Articles are a punk quartet with plenty to say. Their music speaks to all those determined to get through the age of austerity with tongue in cheek, pint in hand, and two feet firmly on the dancefloor. Plying repetition (repetition, repetition…) with ragged edges and a sardonic, sarcastic drawl delivered with fierce, in your face, punk-fueled attitude, both feminine & threatening, Loose Articles are here to make a point.
9.30pm – Welly
Suburban discopunk for the CBBC generation. WELLY arrived early 2022 with is band of PE-kitted disciples as they crash, band and wallop guitars, cowbells and synthesizers through uniquely catchy Dad-danceable songs. It’s The Smiths at a school disco. Vampire Weekend in a village hall. John Betjeman on a bassline.
